Today's suggestion can be as simple or as involved as you want to make it. You can pick some favorite music, press "play," and start moving any way you feel called to, or look online for a specific type of dance class to follow along with, like Qoya, Zumba, ballet, or hip hop.

No matter which form you fancy, dancing is a form of self-care that can benefit you in a plethora of ways.

Such as:


  • Dancing works your body from all planes, including lateral and rotational, which turns on and conditions all muscles, meaning no muscle is left behind
  • Dance can be gentle on the body, making it a great form of exercise for those of us with limited mobility or chronic health issues
  • Research shows that dancing can maintain and even boost our ability to think as we get older because areas of the brain that control memory and skills, such as planning and organizing, improve with exercise like dance
  • Dancing can help strengthen our balance by using the rhythm of music to dictate movement
  • Choreographed dancing can challenge our brain by requiring us to focus on both the rapid changing of movement and recalling moves and patterns
  • Dance can be a solo or social activity
  • Expressive dancing improves your mental and emotional health by reducing stress, decreasing the symptoms of anxiety and depression, and boosting your self-esteem.
